The Dashboard

Before you log into the WordPress Admin, be sure to poke around your newly created site.  See where your pages are, what they look like, what you wish to see changed.  Do you like the colors?  Is the logo correct?  Take notes and you can always submit a customization ticket but we highly suggest you try it out on your own first. Customization requests can take 5-7 business days to be fulfilled.

The RealScout User Dashboard

Welcome to the WordPress Admin!  It is here that you will create and manage your website.  Majority of your time will be spent in RealScout Admin, Posts, Pages, Appearance, and Media.

RealScout Admin

It is here that you can edit your About Me, Testimonials, Basic Information, and much more.  Featured Listings, Manage Disclosures, and Social Icons will be addressed in later chapters.  The About Me tab is the information that displays on the About [me] page on your site.  Double check to make sure your Basic Information is accurate and complete, and then press update options at the bottom of the page.  Unsaved changes will always be lost.

Social Media

Edit your social icons and links under the Social Icons toggle tab.  To Add or Sort Social Icons, navigate to the RealScout Admin menu bar on the left (as seen above).

Adding Pages

Pages > All Pages will display every page that your website contains; published, draft, and in trash.  Page titles with a ‘-’ dash in front are subpages (in menu).

Notes on All Pages:

  • Hover over a page title and you will see Edit | Quick Edit | Trash | View.
  • Click View to see the page as you would in a regular browser.
  • Trash to delete.
  • Quick Edit gives you the ability to make high level changes without entering into Edit view.
  • Edit – this is where you edit the content of your page.

To save your changes but not publish either click Save Draft or Save as Pending.  If you are happy with your changes, click Publish.  Your page is now live and can be viewed by all audiences, BUT you must add it to your menu navigation manually!  Jump to Menus Section.

Your First Page

When you click Edit or the page title, you will be directed to the Edit Page.

It is here that you will create your content and design your page.  There are two modes to view the text box; Visual and Text mode.  These are located as tabs on the top right.

If you are comfortable with HTML (Hypertext Markup Language), you can work in Text mode which is essentially the basic text editor.  If not, do not worry, Visual Mode is for you!  In Visual Mode, you are able to added your content as if you were using Microsoft Word or Notepad.  Click and drag images (inserted via Add Media), highlight, etc.

Overview of Edit Page functionality:

Adding Media

When you click Add Media, a window with two tabs will appear, Upload Files and Media Library.  Under Upload, you can easily drag and drop files to the window or click Select Files. The Media Library displays all graphic content that has been uploaded onto your site.  Screen Shot 2014-09-19 at 12.56.38 PM

AppearanceUnder Appearance, you will be able to customize majority of your theme’s styles.
